From San Jose to Arbol Verde in Ojochal

There are two main routes from San Jose, but we recommend the new toll highway (Hwy 27) & coastal road (Hwy 34) which takes 3.5 to 4 hour from San Jose International Airport.

Travel on Route 1 beside the airport toward San Jose for a little over 11 kilometers.

Exit to Route 39 toward Hatillo/Escazu for approximately 2 kilometers.  Exit Route 27 toward Escazu/Orotina/Jaco.  (There is a quicker way to 27 if you are familiar and comfortable with Costa Rican roads or have GPS/Waze.)  Route 27 is a toll road, so best to have about 2500 colones with you, they do take dollars but will charge an exchange.

After 58 kilometers on Route 27 exit Route 34 toward Jaco. You are now on the Costanera highway.  You will travel approximately 170 kilometers to our exit.

You will pass by Jaco, Quepos,Dominical, Uvita and then see a sign for Ojochal.

It is highly recommended to pick up all your necessities and groceries for your stay in Uvita before you arrive. There is a mini market in Ojochal with essentials but limited supplies and stock.

There are two Supermarkets located in Uvita, one as you enter called Pascifico from the north and second one just a few kilometers away over the bridge to your left clled BM. Just look for the big white and blue BM sign on your left. At the first Pascifico there is also Banks and ATM’s where you can get cash. Inside the BM there is a Scotiabank ATM.

Leaving Uvita you are now only 20 minutes or 18km away from Arbol Verde Ecolodge. You can calculate 15km from the BM to the entrance of Ojochal which will be on your left, there is a big El Colono hardware store right by the entrance to town. (If you pass over a bridge and see a sign on your left for Bamboo Room you have missed the entrance to Ojochjal)

As you enter you will pass La Mona Grita Bar and the Jucalua mini market before crossing over a small narrow bridge. On your left is the new Plaza Tangara, keep on going straight and pass Calle Perezoso where Mama e Papa Italian Restaurant is located.

The next road to your right is Calle Papagayo, turn right here. Go up the hill another kilometer until you see a sign for Hotel Diquis del Sur & Yaba Chigui ahead, keep left onto Calle Tucan and keep going another 1 kilometer, cross over the intersection with Calle Quetzal and Calle Colibri, another 350 meters to your left is the entrance to Arbol Verde Ecolodge.

You’ve Made It! Time to Relax!

From Palmar Sur or Panama

Drive north on the Pan AMerican Highway reaching town of Palmar Norte. This is where the Costanera begins. There is a BM Supermarket, Garage and Banks in Palmar Norte, stop here if you need anything.

You will drive approximately 30 kilometers and see signs for Ojochal. You will pass Restaurante Terraba and Boca Coronado on your left and shortly after see a sign for Bamboo Room before crossing a bridge, take the entrance immediately to the right directly after the bridge, this is the entrance to Ojochal. If you pass a big blue and white building on your right called El Colono, stop and turn around. As you enter you will pass La Mona Grita Bar and the Jucalua mini market before crossing over a small narrow bridge. On your left is the new Plaza Tangara, keep on going straight and pass Calle Perezoso where Mama e Papa Italian Restaurant is located.
